Farm Luck: Return To A Soda Fountain Of Yesteryear

Farm Luck, on the Ellis County Courthouse Square, is an opportunity to return to a pharmacy of old by ordering at the counter while sitting on a round, vinyl stool. From Old-Fashioned Sodas to Egg Sodas, to Phosphates and Homemade Ice Cream Sundaes, Farm Luck has visitors covered.

And, if your mother’s voice still sounds in your mind saying that you must eat your meal before you have dessert, Farm Luck provides many choices. You can stick with traditional favorites, such as the BLT, Club, or Grilled Cheese, or be more adventurous and order the Jalapeño Pimento Cheese. Kids, and kids at heart, can order PB&J that features grape jelly and smooth peanut butter—just the way Mother use to make it!

Salads, soups, wraps and combination plates are also available. Broccoli Cheese and Tomato Basil Soups are on the regular menu, and I love it when the Taco Soup is the daily special. (They will add cheese to this soup if you request it.)

The Honey Club Salad is a large portion heaped high with traditional ingredients of a club sandwich. Also on the menu are Chicken Caesar Salad and the Farm House Salad. Personally, I like the ½ soup and ½ salad or ½ salad and ½ sandwich, especially Aunt Sandy’s Chicken Salad Sandwich. Farm Luck’s chicken salad is a great combination of chicken, grapes, pecans, and celery served on a toasted croissant.

Farm Luck does have table seating in addition to the soda fountain. Visitors order at the register and find a place to sit for food to be brought. Seating is even available on the brick window seat but, as you can imagine, the brick gets hard if you plan to stay for a while.

Farm Luck also provides take out service, so feel free to call in an order and pick it up when you are ready. On a good day, it might be a good picnic to take to the nearby Pocket Park.
