Frozen Cranberry Concoction

Thanksgiving means different things to different people. For some, it is a time for gathering the family around the table for a turkey dinner. For others, it is either a tailgating feast or a hot dog at the game. Still others head out for the hunting lease. Some people spend hours in the kitchen making the traditional Thanksgiving food like turkey and dressing and pumpkin pie. Others prefer to have their Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant. Where ever and how ever you celebrate Thanksgiving, there are probably certain foods from your childhood that you still eat or fondly remember.

Growing up, my family was usually living too far away from our few relatives to spend Thanksgiving with them, so my parents would always invite close friends over for the feast. Mother would pop the turkey in the oven early in the morning, and then get busy making the dressing while my sister and I set the tables – the grown-ups’ table and the kids’ table. We had the typical menu of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie. However, there was one special dish that was unique. That was a frozen cranberry concoction made from a recipe that my mother found in a magazine. It was so easy to make and very delicious. Here is the recipe in case you would like to try it. I can’t remember what its actual name was, so I will go with Frozen Cranberry Concoction. Enjoy!

Frozen Cranberry Concoction

  • 1 can of jellied cranberry sauce
  • 1 can of Sprite

Put the cranberry sauce and Sprite in a blender and puree until well-blended. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and place in the freezer.

We put the frozen cubes in little sherbet cups and served them with the meal. They are a really refreshing and good accompaniment to a turkey dinner!
