Green Bean Casserole Day / Make A Gift Day

Green Bean Casserole Day

December 3

The recipe for Green Bean Casserole was created in the home economics department of Campbell’s Soup Company in 1955. The company began putting the recipe on its mushroom soup can in the early 1960s.

It is considered a comfort food which is most often enjoyed at Thanksgiving. It is estimated more than 30 million Green Bean Casseroles are served at Thanksgiving. Of the approximately $20 million worth of cream of mushroom soup sold in the U.S. annually, green bean casserole is said to account for 40% of sales. The creator of the dish, Dorcas Reilly, was honored by having her original recipe card enshrined at the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio.

Make a Gift Day

December 3

It was not that many years ago, especially during the Depression and world wars, that most Christmas gifts were hand-made. This day is designed to encourage people to make gifts for friends or loved ones. For an enjoyable time, you can invite friends over to collectively make gifts while enjoying each other’s company.
