International Tea Day / National Cat Herding Day

International Tea Day

December 15

According to Wikipedia, International Tea Day is observed annually on December 15. It has been celebrated since 2005 in tea-producing countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda, India and Tanzania. The United Nations later helped expand the celebration worldwide through its Food and Agriculture Organization. There are four major tea types – black, green, white and oolong – but they all come from one plant, Camellia sinensis. It’s how the leaves are treated that the different types of tea are created. Legend has it that tea was discovered by Chinese Emperor Shen Nung in 2737 BCE. A tea leaf accidentally fell into his bowl of hot water, and the rest is history.

National Cat Herding Day

December 15

If getting a staff or committee of people to accomplish a task is next to impossible it is said to be like herding a group of cats. This day commemorates those times of exasperation when achieving a task with multiple participants seems unattainable. The phrase was made popular with a Hewlett Packard Super Bowl commercial in 2000 and has come to symbolize the ability of some people or companies to reach goals even though the obstacles are overwhelming.
