Spiritual Goals
-Spiritual goals are compelling because they are our character.
-The two significant parts of our life we often neglect is spiritual and physical. Physical health we can define more easily with lab numbers, blood pressure, and physical accomplishments.
-Spiritual health is harder to nail down. There is nothing more powerful than believing in something greater than ourselves, in the love of God, and knowing that there is a purpose and value to our lives.
-Faith creates a positive mindset, and a positive attitude is a necessary pre-condition for success. I have never heard a coach, leader, or successful person talk about the value of negativity.
So how do we set spiritual goals? First, and foremost, live in truth! That is integrity writ large. Remember, we can start something, stop something, or do more or less of something.
-The Church gives us a list of seven grievous sins that we can decrease or stop and a list of seven works of mercy we can begin or increase. We can practice solitude and prayer, and then we can set goals to pursue any of these spiritual tasks.
-Just the pursuit of Christ’s peace is a lifelong commitment by Christian Monks, so recognize that like the Stoics taught and Frankl observed, and Uncle Hub said in his speech, there is value in the pursuit of meaning and virtue.
-There is plenty to start with; figure out how you want to get at those virtues and prioritize those actions. Or maybe, like me, you can only handle one at a time; humility is a great place to start.
Remember, “All things are possible through prayer and heavy deadlifts.” ™
