National Mason Jar Day

Mason Jars have been around since 1858 and have served a multitude of uses that continues to this day. They were patented by John Landis Mason, and were mainly used to help Grandma preserve and can all those fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. While Grandma was canning in the kitchen, Grandpa might have been mixing up some brew in the barn and storing it in Mason Jars too! On those hot summer nights, perhaps they were enjoying some freshly squeezed lemonade in their Mason Jars while the grandkids collected fireflies for their jars.

Mason Jars could be used for measuring, mixing, rolling out dough and stamping biscuits. You could make butter and sweet tea in the jars, as well as store assorted nails and screws, and don’t forget all those buttons.

Now one hundred and sixty-one years later, Mason Jars are BACK! They are a practical and visually appealing way to serve everything from salad to cheesecake. You will be eating with your eyes before you ever take that first bite!

Cake for Breakfast?

I don’t know about you, but breakfast is a problem meal for me. I know it’s important to eat breakfast, but usually there’s not a lot of time to prepare something, and powdered doughnuts are NOT an option! What if I told you I found a recipe for Carrot Cake Refrigerator Oatmeal that takes only ten minutes to prep? Just put shredded carrots, crushed pineapple, maple syrup, chopped walnuts and rolled oats in a jar and put it in the fridge overnight. The next morning your “cake” will be ready for your yummy breakfast. For this recipe and more mason jar recipes, check out this site by clicking here.
