National Spouse Day / National Peanut Brittle Day

National Spouse Day

January 26

National Spouse Day was not created to lavish gifts on one’s spouse. Rather it is meant for some quality time together and to share words of appreciation and commitment. According to research on marriage, due to jobs, kids, TV, the Internet, hobbies, and home and family responsibilities, the average married couple spends just four minutes a day of focused alone time together. More than friendship, laughter, forgiveness, compatibility, and intimacy, spouses name trust as the element crucial for a happy marriage.

National Peanut Brittle Day

The Punchbowl.com site tells us “brittle was one of the first types of candy ever made. Many ancient cultures that had access to molasses, honey, or sugar, produced some form of it. The first peanut brittle recipe appeared in an American cookbook, but the exact origin of the confection is uncertain. According to one account, peanut brittle was a Celtic dessert. The Celts covered peanuts in sugar and baked them, and this eventually evolved into a caramel bark.”
