National Mason Jar Day
November 30
The Mason Jar was patented in 1858 by John Landis Mason. Used primarily for preserving food products the glass container has a screw top which supports a tin-plated disc with a rubber band around it that forms a vacuum seal. Ball Canning, one of the major makers of Mason Jars, produces 17 jars per second. If you put the number of Major Jars manufactured in 2015 end-to-end, they would stretch around the world.
