National Kazoo Day

January 28

The kazoo is a musical instrument that adds a “buzzing” timbral quality to a player’s voice when the player vocalizes or hums into it. The kazoo was invented in the 1840s and first presented to the world at the Georgia State Fair in 1852 as the “Down South Submarine”.

National Curmudgeons Day

January 28

Curmudgeons are often characterized as grumpy.  It is thought National Curmudgeons Day was created on the birthday of W.C. Fields, a self-proclaimed curmudgeon who clearly personifies a cantankerous grouch when he said things like: “Start every day off with a smile and get it over with.”

Or, “I am free of all prejudices. I hate everyone equally.”

If you are looking for an excuse to be cranky, crabby or crotchety, today is your day.  Maybe your motto for the National Curmudgeons Day can be a quote from Peanuts’ Linus:  “I love mankind it’s just people I can’t stand.”
