Quiches, originally known as ‘tarts’, were being made in the medieval period in Europe, and the recipes that became popular are said to have come from Germany as early as the 1500s, and these were adapted by the French, especially in the region of Lorraine. The term ‘quiche’ comes from the German word ‘kuchen’, meaning ‘cake’, and it was altered by the French to the common word used today. Quiche fillings are made primarily of cream or milk and eggs, and meat like bacon, vegetables, cheese and seafood are common additions.

The reason bees are so noisy is because they beat their wings 11,400 times in one minute! Only female bees can sting. Male bees don’t have stingers. A hive of bees will fly over 55,000 miles to make 1lb of honey and can create 100lbs of honey in a year. The Honey Bee is the only insect that makes food man can eat. Each Honey Bee from the same hive has their own specific color identification. The Ancient Egyptian King Pepy II came up with a clever insect repellent. He would cover a slave completely with honey so they would be attracted to the honey and not him. A typical hive can produce 60–80 pounds of honey every year.
