I Wish That I Had Duck Feet

This Dr. Seuss book is part of a series called Beginner Books because they have blends of words and pictures that encourage children to read – all by themselves! This one is about a boy who decides he would like to have duck feet so he could splash around and not wear shoes. It seemed like a good idea until he walked into his house with wet duck feet and his mother told him to “Get off my floor! Take your duck feet and you take them out that door!”

Next, he thinks he would like to have deer horns so he could wear lots of hats and carry things on them. It seemed like a good idea, but then he realized he wouldn’t be able to get on the school bus.

He goes through a series of other ideas including a whale spout, a long tail, and a long, long nose. None of these seem to work out at all.

Finally, he realizes, “I think that I just wish to be like ME!”

This book is delightfully Seuss with funny pictures, rhyming words and readable text for early readers. It also has a good life lesson; just be yourself!
