Children’s Picture Book Day

March 28

There are hundreds of thousands of children’s picture book which have been published.  Here’s some interesting facts about some of our favorites. The Oxford English Dictionary lists 21 words as having been introduced into the language by Lewis Carroll, author of Alice In Wonderland. Examples include snark, chortle, jabberwocky, and mimsy. When asked why he had no children of his own, Dr. Seuss said: “You have ’em; I’ll entertain ’em.” E.B. White, the author of Charlotte’s Web, was fascinated by spiders.  White brought a spider egg sac from his farm in Maine to his apartment in New York. He then allowed the hatched baby spiders free reign of his pad, until his cleaner complained.
