Candlemas / National Tater Tot Day

Candlemas

February 2

Candlemas, also known as the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Christ, is a Christian Holy Day commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. It is based upon the account of that presentation Luke 2:22–40. While it is customary for Christians in some countries to remove their Christmas decorations on Twelfth Night (Epiphany Eve), those in other Christian countries historically remove them on Candlemas. Candlemas is one of the oldest feasts of the Christian church celebrated since the 4 century A.D. in Jerusalem.

National Tater Tot Day

February 2

Tater Tots are one of the most eaten comfort foods with more than 70 million pounds devoured every year.  According to Mobile Cuisine, Tater Tots were first created in 1953 when Ore-Ida founders F. Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg were trying to figure out what to do with leftover slivers of cut-up potatoes. They came up with the novel idea of chopping up the potato slivers, adding flour and seasoning, then pushing the mash through holes and slicing off pieces of what came out on the other side.  If you are one of those potato munchy fans, you can attend the annual Tater Tot Festival in Ontario, Oregon every August.
