Cork and Keg is a great place for a laidback lunch or dinner, or just an appetizer and a drink. Located just north of the Courthouse on College Street in Waxahachie, Cork and Keg is easy to access and provides a “Cheers” atmosphere after only a few visits.
Starters include a variety of options such as bruschetta, humus, and a meat and cheese tray. The lunch and dinner menus differ a little, but everything we have eaten has been excellent and at a reasonable price. The cheese tray combined with their Mediterranean Salad makes a great lunch for two. Our other lunch favorite is one of the flatbreads such as the pulled pork or the chicken spinach feta. They are plenty for one, but even better when added to a salad and shared with a friend. For dinner my husband and I usually have beef tenderloin or one of the shrimp dishes. In fact, our favorites include any item with shrimp, whether it’s a salad, shrimp and grits, or shrimp scampi. The outside blackboard always shows several daily specials in addition to their regular menu.
Cork and Keg has a large, diverse wine and beer selection. Mark, the owner, will make suggestions if you ask. Once a month they host a wine or beer pairing with a four-course dinner. There is always a rep from a winery or brewery who provide info about each drink and the place where it is made. The chef always prepares something special for the dinner. For example, the December meal featured a salad, scallop chowder, steak, and chocolate mousse. In addition to learning about new wines or beers and having great food, everyone visits and has a good time.
