Do What Must Be Done-Consistently: Monday Motivation August 14, 2023

Leaders must be what their organization needs. That can be a very informal and participative leadership style for a small team. As the organization grows, a visionary entrepreneur needs an integrator to ensure the processes and management functions of the business get their due attention. Eventually, we create departments and divisions for finance, operations, sales, marketing, and more. The leader’s role in each organization is different and dependent on the Mission and organizational dynamics of the people and structure. Those factors create the culture. The key is consistency.

Without consistency, you have chaos, and chaos isn’t a culture; it’s a mess of drama and inefficiency. Now, distinguish consistency from constancy because constancy is the absence of change, and without change, there isn’t any growth. Consistency has a variety of meanings, but here I’m talking about similarly doing things to create a predictable result. Consistency results from policy, procedure, processes, and training, but it starts with values, vision, Mission, and purpose and always starts with the leader. The best policies and processes in the world will not compensate for a vacillating, indecisive, inattentive, or distracted leader.

The leader must know their personal values, vision, Mission, purpose, and goals, including a commitment to provide excellent leadership. Then the leader must ensure the values, vision, Mission, purpose, goals, strategy, policy, procedures, and processes are aligned and enforce them firmly and fairly. Consistency builds momentum, and momentum creates results; results create wins, and wins improve the bottom line.

This week evaluate your individual consistency. Are you contributing to the drama?
