Ellis County Home Run Derby

High school graduating seniors representing six Ellis County schools had one more chance to play ball during the first-ever countywide homerun derby held Thursday night at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.

“Since their season was cut short, this gives the senior baseball players one more chance to play and their parents a chance to see them,” organizer Travis Smith said.

The ball players represented high schools Waxahachie, Ennis, Red Oak, Midlothian Heritage, Avalon and Maypearl high schools. The players were chosen by their coaches.

Each batter took pitches in a contest to see how many balls he could hit over the back wall of the ball field

The derby winner was Gabe Vazquez of Midlothian Heritage High School.

The derby was sponsored by KBEC 1390AM/99.1FM.
