Global Belly Laugh Day / National Peanut Butter Day

Global Belly Laugh Day

January 24

Today is a time devoted to a good belly laugh…..not a chuckle….but an all-out, laugh-out-loud emotion of joy. The stress hormones, cortisol and epinephrine, affect the immune system of the human body. Laughing often can bring down the levels of stress hormones. Laughing releases certain neurochemicals that help create a positive state of mind. And, laughing can help supply more oxygen into the system. It can help relieve pain, tension, stress, and anxiety.

National Peanut Butter Day

January 24

The National Day Calendar states that “In 1884, Marcus Edson developed a process to make peanut paste from milling roasted peanuts between two heated plates. The famous cereal maker and health food specialist of the time, John Kellogg, patented a process with raw peanuts in 1895. Peanut butter was introduced to audiences at the 1904 Universal Exposition in St. Louis.

But the man who brought us the peanut butter we know and love today was Joseph Rosefield. In 1922, through homogenization, Rosefield was able to keep peanut oil from separating from the peanut solids. He later sold the patent to a company that began making Peter Pan peanut butter. He went into business for himself selling Skippy peanut butter through Rosefield Packing.
