International Sushi Day / National Splurge Day

International Sushi Day

June 18

Some interesting info about sushi includes: Sushi dates back to at least the second century A.D., beginning as a method of preserving fish in China. Approximately 80% of the world’s blue-fin tuna catch is used for sushi. The highest price ever paid for a sushi grade Blue-fin Tuna was $396,000 for a 754- pound fish ($526/lb) in 2011 at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. Sushi restaurants in the United States alone bring in about $2 billion in annual revenue. Wasabi was originally eaten with sushi to kill bacteria and parasites in the fish. Now with better sanitary conditions it’s not needed and eaten just out of habit.

Today, people are given a green light to splurge on themselves. It has been observed since 1994 as a day to purchase those things you seldom buy or enjoy a day doing something which you have dodged because it seemed to lavish in which to indulge. Today is all about you.
