It Is Time We Shine

Matthew 5:16 tells us, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

“Shine” means to give off or reflect light. We are living amid people who are in a state of spiritual darkness and it is our spiritual duty to shine the Light of Christ and help remove and destroy every yoke of darkness.

Love must become our weapon of choice!

Romans 12:18 encourages us with the words of, “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”

The Apostle Paul also encouraged the Church of Philippi to, “Do all things without grumbling, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the Word of Life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” Philippians 2:14-16

As Christians, we should be shining in our workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, shopping centers, restaurants, and everywhere we go. However, we cannot shine as light if we do not possess the Light!

In the Gospel of John, Jesus is called “The True Light” which gives light to everyone. And as Christians, followers of Jesus, we are called to be lights in the dark and not just light among lights.

What? Yes, far too often we find ourselves being Christians only among other Christians. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others…” He explained that no one lights a lamp just to hide it. A lamp is meant to be placed on a stand to give light to everything around it. “Go ye therefore,” says the Lord.

It is time that we go out into the world and shine the Light of Christ! And while we are out there shining, let us remember to always point back to the light source. Remembering that our goal is to bring glory to God and not to bring recognition to ourselves.

Could you imagine what it would look like to have all of us Christians shining the Light of Christ amid all this darkness. Hmm… It is time we flip the switch and expel the darkness!

God bless you,
