Italian Food, Wine, and Oil…What More Do We Need?

Part Italian specialty store, part Italian restaurant and bakery, Panza’s Tapping Italy in downtown Waxahachie has much to offer. I first stopped in to find a new olive oil and was pleasantly surprised to find several oils to sample and to discover that they also have specialty vinegars.

I was eager to try the restaurant after the pleasant experience I had purchasing olive oil, and the food didn’t disappoint me. Their menu is limited, but I still found the choice difficult. The flatbreads won my vote, so I tried the chicken flatbread while my husband sampled one of the flatbread daily specials featuring figs. (Check out the beautifully arranged display cases for specials of the day.) The flatbreads came out quickly and, accompanied by a Caesar Salad, was more than enough for a casual lunch. You can choose a glass of wine to accompany your very Italian lunch and feel as though you are in an Italian café. They have a variety of Italian wines that you can also purchase to take home.

During one visit, the owner created a pasta from a sauce they have for sale and gave everyone a sample. On another visit, he gave everyone a piece of their luscious cannoli. (I am not a sweet fan, but Panza’s cannoli is to die for!) Since the cannoli was so delicious, I had to sample the chocolate salami on the next visit, another fabulous dessert. They offer espresso to accompany dessert. The espresso is strong but not bitter. I still wish they had cappuccino, my perfect accompaniment for dessert.

Panza’s also serves sandwiches, soups, and bruschetta. They provide in-store and take-out options. Check the day and hours before you visit. They are only open Wednesday through Saturday so make certain you time your hunger accordingly!
