Levi Strauss Day / National Pistachio Day

Levi Strauss Day

February 26

Levi Strauss never wore his own jeans.  He put a signature ‘V’ shaped stitch on the back pockets to identify his pants. The first pair of Levi’s cost only $1.25 in 1880. One of those original pairs actually sold for $46,532. The first original Levi store was opened in Europe (Spain) and within 8 years there were 527 stores. In 1934 Lady Levi’s Jeans were the first jeans designed for woman. There are two types of fabrics: Denim and Jean. Denim is made from one white thread and one colored thread. Jean is made of two threads of the same color.

National Pistachio Day

February 26

The pistachio tree is a member of the cashew family and is native to Central Asia and the Middle East. Archaeology shows that pistachio seeds were a common food as early as 6750 BC. In its natural habitat, the pistachio tree has a lifespan of over 150 years. Each pistachio tree averages around 110 pounds of seeds, or around 50,000, every two years. Iran and the United States are the major producers of pistachios, together accounting for about 3/4 of the total world production.
