It is better to give than to receive.” Why? To start with the western civilization standard, our Lord Jesus Christ told us we would inherit the Kingdom of Heaven if we fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, sheltered the stranger, clothed the naked, visited the sick, and ministered to the prisoner.  For as we do to one of the least, we do unto Him.  If that isn’t enough, here are 5 more reasons supported by science.

Turns out that giving has great rewards physically, emotionally, and mentally for the giver. Giving produces endorphins that make us happy. Volunteering consistently reduces stress and blood pressure.  Giving promotes cooperation and social connection resulting often in reciprocation which is central to good mental and physical health. Giving evokes gratitude and gratitude causes people to exercise more, be more optimistic, and feel better overall about their lives. I’m betting it makes you deadlift more, too. Giving is contagious and inspires observers to be generous toward people they don’t even know and can create a community effect.

So I’ve given you the why and we will talk more about the how in the weeks ahead, but take action now! Here’s an idea, give a toy to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots (Ellis County link below) and you will feel better and build your treasure in heaven.
