Monday Motivation – January 23, 2023

Today is special; it is the 30th Anniversary of the day my beautiful wife, Annie, and I were joined together in Holy Matrimony. Happy 30th Anniversary, love of my life. You make every day better than the last, and I look forward to many more blessed years!

I was 28 years old when I discovered that time management is really life management and began following the concepts and disciplines described by Dr. Charles Hobbs. I realized that life is the total of every decision we make and that while we can’t control time, we can control the events in our lives or how we react to those we can’t control. I decided to take responsibility for my life.

These are the disciplines I committed to that day in July 1989:
Daily Goal Setting: Review my goals first thing in the morning and focus on those needing action today. Revising goals and setting intermediate goals.
Daily Planning and Organizing: I prepare the night before the following day’s events with my daily planner.

Daily Priority Setting: The essence of time and life management is prioritizing to ensure we put time, our most valuable resource, into the highest-value tasks and events. Based on my goals and those of the organization, I prioritize daily tasks and start work immediately on the highest priority.

Daily Concentration of Power: Focusing our power of concentration on the highest value task and taking it to completion is the key to success.
Daily Exercise, Proper Nutrition, and Sleep: Your health is more important than anything else. Eating healthy, exercising daily, and getting adequate sleep to energize your mind and body will maximize your productivity.
Daily Learning and Growth: Continuous learning is the minimum for success in any field. Your mind is like a muscle; exercise it to be healthy and grow.

Daily Time for the Important Relationships in your Life: Relationships are everything; this includes your relationship with God. As you climb the ladder of success, ensure it is leaning against the right wall.
For the past 32 years, I have taken responsibility for my life, committed to excellence, and lived through these disciplines. With Annie’s love, support, and friendship for the past 30 years, we have raised two great humans, served our country, built successful careers, and fulfilled lives. You can, too!
