National Comfort Food Day / National Blue Jeans Day

National Comfort Food Day

December 5

A definition of “comfort food” is the sentimental reminder of the type of food we grew up with. Depending on the part of the country in which you spent your youth, the foods of happy memories can be different like grits in the south, mac and cheese in the north, seafood on the coasts, or barbeque in Texas. This is a day to forget about diets and dig into to those memorable meals that bring a smile.

National Blue Jeans Day

December 5

Jeans were created in 1871 by Jacob Davis in collaboration with the Levi Strauss Company.  Made primarily of denim cloth they were originally made for miners because of their durability. Rivets were added to pocket edges for more stability. One bale of cotton can produce 225 jeans. Jeans became popular with teenagers in the 1950 because of Marlon Brando and James Dean wearing them in movies where their defiance of the norm was considered cool. Yearly, about 450 million jeans are sold worldwide.
