According to PoinsettiaDay.com, the Poinsettia in Mexico is called “La Flor de La Nochebuena or, Flower of the Holy Night and is displayed in celebration of the December 12th Dia de la Virgen or Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Use of the plant to celebrate Christmas in Mexico dates back to the 17th century. Poinsettias contribute upwards of $250 million to the U.S. economy each year at the wholesale level. They are the best-selling potted plant in the United States and Canada.
