On this day, the male must purchase the food for the entire dinner, cook and serve the meal and clean up. By established rules, no takeout orders are allowed, nor is barbequing or grilling. Republican Symbol Was Introduced

November 7, 1874

Thomas Nast, a cartoonist for Harper’s Weekly, worked at the magazine from 1862-1886, and is the person credited with creating an elephant as the symbol for the Republican Party. He also popularized the Democratic donkey symbol. Nash was also the first to characterize Santa as a chubby, jolly persona. Before then Santa was always depicted as tall and thin.
