National Pickle Day / National American Teddy Bear Day

National Pickle Day

November 14

Almost 4000 years ago, people in India began to put cucumbers in a salt, sugar and vinegar solution and the result is what we call a pickle. This special day was created by the Pickle Packers Association in 1949 to pay homage to their product. Pickles are a type of fruit and more than 20 million of them are eaten in the U.S. every year.

National American Teddy Bear Day

November 14

An avid sportsman, Theodor Roosevelt in 1902 had an encounter with a bear which was severely injured. The President of the U.S. decided to humanly kill it and was honored in the press for his compassion. Toy companies began to label their stuffed bears “Teddy Bears,” and the distinction has lasted more than 100 years. This day commemorates the special place Teddy Bears have had in children’s lives.
