French Toast Day / Enron Collapses

French Toast Day

November 28

According to DaysoftheYear.com even though “we tend to call it French Bread, the dish isn’t known to have come from France. Some ancient Latin recipes from the 4th century mention soaking bread in milk before frying. In Italy, there’s a savory version, called ‘mozzarella en carrozza’, which sees the egg-soaked bread sandwiching slices of mozzarella cheese before it is fried.” Celebrate today with a morning breakfast treat of French Bread.

Enron Collapses

November 28, 2001

Enron Corporation, with national headquarters in Houston, was the world’s largest energy trader when its stock fell below $1 announced on November 28, 2001 that Dynegy, Inc., the company who had planned to pay $8.4 billion to take Enron over, had backed out of the deal. Thus, a company with 20,000 employees collapsed. A few days later, on December 2, 2001, Enron filed for bankruptcy. It was later uncovered that some top executives of Enron, knowing of the Dynegy bailout, sold their stock. They were later indicted and convicted on securities fraud and other charges.
