SAGU Ranks #1 in Nation for Online Bachelor’s in Mental Health Counseling

Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) was recently ranked for having the top online bachelor’s degree in mental health counseling!

Dr. Mike Clarensau, Interim Department Chair and Dean of the College of Bible and Church Ministries, believes that this recognition affirms the department’s efforts in providing a quality learning experience.

“We help students integrate the highest levels of professionalism with their Christian faith as they prepare to make a real difference in the many career paths such training offers.” – Dr. Mike Clarensau, Interim Dept. Chair for Behavioral Sciences and Community Services/Dean of the College of Bible and Church Ministries

The ranking study was performed by study.com, a website that specializes in researching schools across the country to connect students with the best learning experiences possible.

SAGU was ranked alongside several other reputable higher education institutions. Numerous factors contributed to Study’s ranking, including the schools’ management of the following:

  • Tuition
  • Acceptance rate
  • Graduation rate
  • Financial aid
  • Placement services
  • Career services
  • Credit acceptance

Study also noted that there is no disadvantage for students getting their degree online, saying that SAGU’s tutoring, counseling, and one-on-one instruction are available to all. The ranking article recognized SAGU’s psychology and counseling courses, including crisis intervention and cultural issues. They noted that such classes actively teach students to not simply observe those in need but to go the extra step and work with them.

Looking toward the future and reflecting on this award and past achievements of the degree program, Dr. Clarensau believes that great things are on the horizon for SAGU’s Mental Health Counseling.

“SAGU has had a long history of preparing students for the important work of counseling and today’s climate offers more opportunities to these students than ever before,” he said. “We’re excited about the impact our Counseling grads are making in communities around the world today.”
