Shark Week

What Am I?

I have been around for about 400 million years- even before the dinosaurs!
I have the most powerful jaws on the planet.
I can grow and use over 20,000 teeth in my lifetime.
My habitat is the ocean.

If you guessed a shark, you would be right. Discovery channel’s Shark Week is the longest running summer TV event and is filled with all things sharks. What a perfect time to incorporate sharks into your lessons for the next few weeks. There are resources about sharks for kids of all ages. Here are a few I like.

The Home School Scientist

The Home School Scientist has assembled an easy to use list of resources about sharks that are divided into categories such as shark math activities, language arts lessons about sharks, and shark arts and crafts. Click here to view the site.

Active Wild

I think you and your child would really enjoy this site.  There are interesting facts and games about sharks and also fabulous videos from Jonathan Bird’s Blue World.  I especially liked the ones on the great white shark and the megaladon, an extinct shark that ate whales for snacks!  Check it out by clicking here.
