The Stars Are Out!

Summer evenings are so magical! The birds are having their last bites at the feeders before retiring, and the butterflies and hummingbirds are flitting among the blossoms. As twilight rolls in, you can see the flickers of the fireflies, and finally, the twinkling of the stars. During July and August, you just might see a shooting star because the Perseid meteor showers are happening.

How about a star-themed picnic under the starry sky? All you really need are some star-shaped cookie cutters in a couple of different sizes and your imagination. The kids can definitely help! I have found some sites that have cute ideas to get you started.

The Delish site always has good suggestions. Use your star cookie cutter to make star-shaped berry shortcakes, grilled cheese sammies, quesadillas and little pizzas. You can even fashion ice cream sandwiches and pop tarts into stars. What fruit can become stars? Go to the Delish site by clicking here to get more ideas.

The OT Toolbox also has some more star food ideas. You can make star-shaped dippers by cutting store-bought tortillas into stars. Put them on a cookie sheet and brush with a little olive oil. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes and serve them with your favorite dip. There are also directions on how to make star-shaped brownies and a star-studded cherry pie. Check it out by clicking here.

Here’s wishing you the starriest of nights!
