Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is my very favorite holiday. It has chocolate, flowers, hearts and love! It’s a day to pamper or be pampered, declare your love, send flowers or get flowers, and of course be thankful for all the special people in your life. As an elementary teacher, the Valentine’s Day party was always the best. The children truly loved opening and reading each valentine they got in their sack or box, and I loved watching them.

What about Valentine’s Day dinner? Will you get all dressed up and go out to a restaurant, or will you celebrate with a special dinner at home? Apparently, many people do that. Just visit your local grocery store around 5:00 on Valentine’s Day and you will see an amazing sight – lots of men pushing shopping carts filled with steaks, wine and flowers, and of course, chocolate-covered strawberries!

This year, I am going to make heart-shaped pizzas. They are so cute and easy to do, and they are perfect whether you are planning a dinner for two or for the whole family! All you need is some store-bought pizza dough and whatever toppings you like. Simply roll out the dough on a floured surface to a ¼ inch thickness. Use a 5-inch, heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the hearts. Place them on a rimmed cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes at 425 degrees. Remove from the oven and cool for a few minutes, then put your toppings on, ending with the cheese. Pop them back in the oven for 5 more minutes or until the cheese is melted. Add a salad, your beverage of choice, a good movie, and of course – chocolate. Happy Valentine’s Day!
