Wine Country

If you like chic-flicks, then this one is for you, it’s the epitome of chic-i-ness!!!!

Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Emily Spivey, and Tina Fey who are also known for their parts on SNL, make this film funny, quirky, eye opening and it makes you want to pack your bags, grab your best gal pals and hit the road!!!! I’ve always liked watching Adam Sandler movies with all his guy buddies with their comradery and SNL comedic ability to play off of each other so smoothly, but now the girls from SNL are doing it and doing it just as good if not better!

The movie is about six longtime girlfriends who come together for Rebecca’s 50th birthday played by Dratch. Abby (Poehler) is the planner and plans everything down to the minute, she leaves nothing to chance. Abby finds a beautiful home they rent in beautiful Napa Valley which is owned by a quirky, matter of fact, stand-offish woman named Tammy, played by Tina Fey. The girlfriends have known each other for years; they all met while working as waitresses at a Chicago pizza place. They are all close and somewhat dependent on each other, or at least dependent on how they all see one another. What I took from the movie was that these girls are trying to avoid conflict within themselves, with each other and their personal lives, yet throughout the movie you become involved with each character, getting to know them, connecting with one or something from them all. They learn how to embrace the vulnerability each one has tried to avoid by helping each other see the best in each other while seeing the best in themselves.

They say that 50 is the new 30 and with this group you believe it or want to anyway! It’s such a fun film, it may lack a few action points but the message comes through and you find yourself cheering them on and wishing the best for each character. Since all these women have worked together on SNL, their personalities come through their characters and seem to intertwine like your own group of girlfriends. There is the planner, the crazy one, the workaholic, the “don’t make a fuss over me”, the “make plans and doesn’t show” and the one who is ready for anything character…you will recognize them, they’re in every group of friends you ever had or will have!

Wine Country; a fun comedy that was released on Netflix May 10, 2019 with a rating of R.
