World Tuna Day / National Doodle Dog Day

World Tuna Day

May 2

There are 8 species of tuna: Albacore tuna, Atlantic bluefin tuna, Bigeye tuna, Blackfin tuna, Longtail tuna, Pacific bluefin tuna, Longtail tuna and Yellowfin tuna. The lifespan of tunas varies by species, but ranges from about 15 – 40 years.  The Atlantic bluefin tuna is the largest tuna species. Fully mature adult specimens average 6.6–8.2 feet long and weigh 496–551 pounds. The largest recorded specimen was caught off Nova Scotia, an area renowned for huge Atlantic bluefin, and weighed 1,497 pounds.  The tuna will swim near the surface of the ocean to look for food, however they can also dive to the depth of 3000 feet to search for their next meal.

National Doodle Dog Day

May 2

This day is to celebrate a very popular mixture of a poodle with other breeds ranging from Labradors and Golden Retrievers to “oodles” and “poos”, such as Schnoodles (schnauzers), Yorkiepoos (yorkies), and Cockapoos (Cocker Spaniels). The original Doodle was a Labradoodle, bred in the early 1980s as an allergy-free guide dog for a vision-impaired woman, whose husband was allergic to dog hair. Two years and 33 trials later, a Standard Poodle was crossed with a Labrador and the Labradoodle was born.
